James Kipp is the son of Capt Samuel Kipp and Mary Knapp.

The title of the article is:
James Kipp: Upper Missouri River Fur Trader and Missouri Farmer.
Published in North Dakota History, Journal of the Northern Plains, Vol. 77, Nos. 1 & 2. Pages 40.
The article is copyright 2011 by the State Historical Society of North Dakota. This article is for sale by the bookstore
at the North Dakota Heritage Center, and can be ordered for $14.95 at (701) 328-2879.

There is one error in it: Kipp could not have interacted with William Laidlaw on the Red River in 1808, for Laidlaw was only 8 years old at the time, having been born in 1800.
